Grateful For … (7)

Conversation.

My wife and I do not always agree. Sometimes when we disagree it is a serious disagreement. Authrine won’t mind me writing that. (Authrine gives CD The Look.)

What I love about our relationship at the moment, however, is the freedom for us to express ourselves and for us to react emotionally at first and then process it further and return to it and cultivate the garden of conversation that bears enjoyable fruit. That means we can say what we’re saying, disagree forcefully with it, come back to it, consider it, gently pick it apart, see it as valid and work on the parts we can work on it.

I never thought I would ever be mature enough to get on with it. I am grateful to God that He has spared my life and the life of my wife to reach this stage in the development of our relationship. I am grateful to God for conversations that cultivate character. I am grateful for my beloved wife that helps to grow in this area of my life.

If that wasn’t all today I also had a good heart to heart conversation with my brother. We covered some issues together and were able to share and ask each other for insight on the other’s issues. That level of transparency is something I value a great deal in close relationships and to express that with my brother today and benefit greatly from that encounter makes me all the more grateful for conversation.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
