We are very good at reasoning and rationalising things.
We have made such a meal of that ability that we are able to rationalise almost anything. Indeed when I say almost, not even I’m sure what we haven’t rationalised.
Yet, just because there is a rationale behind something, that doesn’t necessarily make it right.
I could give an outline as to why I believe prayer is so important, but there’s this excellent piece written by Frank Viola that addresses this issue. It responds to some approaches that indicate that maybe we’ve reached the pont where we can say farewell to prayer. I heartily commend you read it and see for yourself the role prayer still prays in the life of every believer in Jesus.
There is much I have to be grateful for about the works of Frank Viola. A number of his books have been tremendously helpful for me in addressing certain sacred cows that needed to be slaughtered in my life. Whether it was on matters of church, or his work on the magnificence of Jesus, or his work on the Kingdom, I’ve found his material to be at the very least thought-provoking, challenging and a return to Jesus in His Word.
So it comes as no surprise that what he wrote on the matter of prayer – a matter very close to my heart – is something in which he writes with clarity and incisive wisdom. Have a read and don’t stop praying (don’t even rationalise that away).
For His Name’s Sake
