I though the way conversation worked was that you would say somoething and I would listen, then I would say something and you would listen.
I also thought that immediacy was crucial. No time for long pauses and messing around – just get on with the talking.
So I was grateful to learn from key people that sometimes I could ask a question and not get an immediate response at all. It was best to just enjoy the silence.
