It Is An Honour

It’s not a passing thing. It’s still relevant today.

Children get that feeling when a parent they respect and admire compliments them on something they’ve done. It’s the feeling of being honoured. If they are asked to take part in something of importance or prestige, there’s a feeling of being honoured. If they are subsequently recognised by their peers or their seniors for their achievements, there again is a sense of being honoured.

That’s not something limited to childhood. In the workplace and other settings that same feeling can be experienced of being honoured. Honoured to do something, honoured to be a part of something, honoured in the light of things done.

It can be a humbling experience to be honoured. However hard you may have worked and however long you have been doing it, it is still something to be stopped in your tracks and be recognised in such a way.

In my life it is an honour for me to be among people who are focused on sharing the love of Jesus in life. It’s an honour to see them share life in Christ and grow as a result of our interactions together.

It’s an honour for me to do the tutoring I do with the students at their various levels. That they see it fit to retain my services and choose to invest in them for the improvement they gain from it is meaningful to me. You might think there’s a mutual exchange taking place that a service is offered and they benefit from it. There is still an element of it, however, that it is an honour that I enjoy. That’s something I don’t endeavour to take for granted and I see it as an act of my loving Father to give me these opportunities. As an act of gratitude on my part, I look to be as diligent as I can with each opportunity and give to these students something in addition to technical competence and learning tricks. There’s something about personal investment of faith in God for them in their endeavours.

Just beginning to consider the honours experienced in life is a chance to offer praise and thanksgiving to the glorious God who in His wisdom sees it fit to honour us in so many ways.

It gives things a different perspective in life to seek out those honours we experience and appreciate them.
