Things happen. That is how it goes.
How we respond to things can determine whether we retain sanity, or slowly see it slip away. External factors are one thing, but the state of the mind is the centre for dealing with matters.
The example of my Dad taught me that even in the most chaotic storms of life, you can operate from a mind at rest. That is not a dormant mind, or one that is not aware of what is going on. It is a mind at rest based on the foundations of God’s supremacy, man’s insufficiency and man’s capability in God’s provision.
That means that what we can do, we do in the provision of God, and what we cannot do we leave to His supremacy. There is no room for fear and anxiety in helplessness. There is no room for pride and complacency when action is taken. All that remains is gratitude for strength and patience, talent and endurance.
My Dad lived that for me to see without making a big deal of it. I see its wisdom now as I negotiate day to day challenges in the light of following Jesus. I long to practice it all the more.
For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
