September Sojourn: I Will Follow You

There is something intriguing about Jesus’ relationship with Hus disciples throughout the gospel according to John. They choose to follow Jesus, and He says they do this because they have been chosen.

This explains why when others walk away at some of the tough sayings of the Rabbi, these remain. When the religious rulers put a death threat on the Master, they remain because they are chosen. Even when He is crucified, they retain their status because they are chosen.

In all this, though, and especially going throigh this, there’s not much to suggest that remaining was always going to be the case. I can say they were likely to remain because they were chosen only in hindsight. Now walking with Jesus, staying with Jesus – sometimes barely clinging to Him is as much about a conscious decision to follow Him as His faithfulness to be with me.

Despite the failings of the day, the truth of the good news, the truth of His grace, the truth of His light and love persuade me to say and express in life – I will follow Him.

For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
