The Word of God is essential to life. It’s good to take in the whole word, yet there are certain aspects of the word that can have an impact on some more than others.
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure. (1 John 3:1-3 ESV)
Jesus is the King. He is a lot of things, and among them is the position He has as ruler over everything. That’s why those who follow Him are committed to seeing Christ over everything. That’s why to behold the love that the Father has for us brings us into focusing on being like His Son. We shall see Him and be like Him as He is. That’s a statement of hope and faith that propels us to then follow that up with what is said afterwards – those who have that hope in Him purify themselves as Jesus is pure.
That sounds like a lot of work. Being pure. Purifying ourselves just as He is pure. We have to put in the work, it sounds like. We have to be super critical over everything we think, feel, say and do to ensure that it’s totally in tune with being like Jesus … or …
We remember that the first part of the statement was to see the kind of love the Father has given us. If we are truly beholding that kind of love, we will be overwhelmed by grace and mercy. Grace and mercy that does the purifying. Grace and mercy – seen in the crucifixion of the Son. Grace and mercy – seen in the blood shed and the body broken. Grace and mercy – seen in the empty tomb and the Son seated on the right hand of the Father, making an intercession for those that belong to Him. Grace and mercy – seen every time we confess our sins to Him, that we tap into the blood of Jesus that washes us and makes us clean in the sight of the Father. That’s just a part of the amazing love that the Father has given us that makes us the children of God.
A Kingsman embodies that in delighting himself in pursuing the Son and being grateful to allow Him to purify him. A Kingsman acknowledges his position first and foremost as a son who looks to the Son to know what sonship is all about. And it’s all grace. It’s all the work of God in him and through him for the glory of the Father. It’s all about the Spirit keeping the man ever dependent and reliant on the Source and desirous to reflect Him in all things.
The word of God is essential for the Kingsman. The word informs him as to who he is. And who is he? A son in receipt of the amazing love of God that gives him hope for the future and a reason to pursue purity in the present.
