KMCD 02: Man, What’s the Big Deal? Part One

What’s the big deal about being a Kingsman?

I don’t belong to myself.

When I was in charge of my life, and it was my life, and I could do what I wanted with it, it was a great feeling of control. At last, I was the master of my own destiny. Nobody could tell me what to do; I could do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. The illusion of freedom was strong. The delusion of control was intoxicating. Until the love of God broke through to shine light on the illusion and delusion for as long as I belonged to me and no one could tell me what to do, I was nowhere near becoming all that I could become in the world and in fact, I was genuinely the greatest hindrance and enemy to enjoying what life had to offer.

The love of God broke through, pointing me to what the Son did because He belonged to the Father. Among other things, Jesus made it possible for a right relationship with the Father to be restored, and that relationship immediately meant I no longer belonged to myself. I belonged to the Creator of the Universe, the Holy, Heavenly Father and the King of all Creation. That means He rules, and I get to learn His rule and see it displayed on the earth as I pledge allegiance to Him and acknowledge that I belong to Him, and that He has total rule over all of my life. (And trust me when I say that last statement is as much one made by faith as anything else.)

I don’t rely on myself.

The thing about work is that it gave me the impression that it was all on me. I saw my parents’ hard work bring out what they could provide for us. Their work made it happen. They did not boast in their work; in fact, they took the day of rest seriously. But all I saw was work getting rewards, and it’s all on them. So I thought it was all on me, and it was tough and wrong to rely on anyone else. This changed as I grew to understand what it meant to belong to the King. It is His responsibility in His rule to provide all that is required for those who belong to Him. All who put their trust in Him can rely on Him for everything. He is the source of everything they need, and they’re actively encouraged to rely on Him and see how He provides for all things in various ways.

This took some time to absorb and apply. Some things were easier to rely on Him than others. And it continues to be a work in progress to submit all of life to Him. Yet He remains true to His Word that those who prioritise Him and His Kingdom will lack no good thing and will have their needs met. It’s on Him because it’s His Kingdom, it’s His rule, it’s His way and getting to know Him is to know one who loves to give, loves to bless, loves to supply, loves to resource, loves to develop and replenish. This is evident from creation to consummation. It’s who He is, and His faithful nature means He’ll never go back on His word. To embrace that is to appreciate what it is to represent Him and express His rule to others.

That’s not all … but you’ll have to read the second part to discover why being a Kingsman is such a big deal …

For His Name’s Sake
