20 for 20 #7 Dryden on Politics

Politics.

Few people respond enthusiastically to exploring politics who are not already involved in observing, studying, and participating in the political process. It leaves some feeling it’s almost a dirty subject that should be treated with gloves and a mask.

I love politics. I love politics because it’s the human expression of something that should be submitted to God, and the refusal to do so leads to the fascinating stories of people with varying degrees of frustration seeing how they can rule. It speaks so much to the human condition. The refusal to engage in it ignores the reality that everyone is political and is involved in the rule of their given area.

It was a subject I enjoyed studying at the academic level and it’s a subject I pay attention to with the various machinations that happen at the local, national and international level. I got to write some things on the subject, but it’s something I’d certainly like to return to write about with an approach reflecting my current perspective on the role of the Kingdom of God and the political structures of the world.

As that idea bubbles in my mind, here are some things I’ve written on the topic that I’d encourage you to read.

For His Name’s Sake

  1. I like your thoughts expressed in these posts, Mr Dryden, at least those I’ve read so far. There’s often a feeling out there amongst those following Jesus, that politics is a dirty and unworthy subject in and of itself. That’s not true at all, I agree with you on that. All of us, believers and non-believers alike, are affected by the words and actions of politicians. Not only do we have the right to be involved, we actually have the duty to be involved in ways that will glorify Jesus.

He’s our guide in all things (except politics?). If that’s what people think, they need to dig a bit deeper! Jesus discussed politics with the High Priest and with the Roman governor of Judea. He answered questions about taxation. The entire creation is being redeemed and restored (except politics?)

Jesus came to draw everyone in (except politicians?). We are all allowed to express opinions on any topic. We have a duty to do so, not in hostility but in friendly ways. A we not the friends of Jesus? Are we not his brothers and sisters?

Grace and peace to you as always, may all your thoughts and involvements in politics glorify Jesus and the Father! Amen, bro 🙂

    1. Another contribution note of substance and value, Chris, thank you for sharing it here and enriching the experience.
