Delight Yourself in the Lord

Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. (Psalm 37:4)

This is a fascinating verse. What fascinates me is the order. The first part determines the second part. Though some might get excited about the second part, we will do well to appreciate the order.

It would be easy to establish the desires of our heart covering a wide range of factors. We desire security. We desire comfort. We desire power. We desire protection and provision. So many things we could list as worthwhile desires. Worthwhile to us.

What is of eternal worth, though, is a relationship with our Creator. What would it mean to desire that above everything else? What would it be like for every other desire to fall underneath that desire? What would it look like to prioritise and fix everything on our glorious Lord?

Could that look like delighting ourselves in the Lord? 🤔
