For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven
and do not return there but water the earth,
making it bring forth and sprout,
giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater,
11so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;
it shall not return to me empty,
but it shall accomplish that which I purpose,
and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it. (Isaiah 55:10-11 ESV)
God gives.
He is very generous in His giving as well.
There is an expectation of what He gives. The expectation is that whatever He gives will be of benefit to the recipient. Often, there is an expectation that what He sends will return to Him differently than how it was sent. He sends His Word, and when it returns to Him, having accomplished what it was set out to do, it returns enriched and fulfilled for the experience.
God gives us so many things, and His idea is that He entrusts these to us in the hope of receiving back from us far more than what He initially gave. Helping with that is the fact that inside what He’s given is enough to produce plenty He expects.
This is realised through the process of honour, stewardship, cultivation, and guarding. When those aspects are activated and in full effect, the Giver receives.
It’s worth exploring each aspect a bit more closely.
