They were His people, He was their God.
There were other gods to be sure – but all had to be ditched in favour of the one true God who liberated His people with a strong hand from the oppressor.
As it was then, so is the invitation today – those who recognise the oppression and the enslavement can be set free today. That freedom is established on the premise of honouring the one true God.
There are to be no other gods.
