2021 In The Word: A Word Of Wisdom Review

It is good to give thanks to the Lord. It really is. It is good to be specific about the things for which we can be grateful. It is good because it gives credit where it’s due and it acknowledges that we are somehow blessed in one way or another and that is nothing to overlook or neglect. It’s something to celebrate in appreciation.

Therefore, I give God thanks. I specifically give God thanks for Kelvin Mwansa. This man has been a great friend to my family and to me in particular over recent years. It definitely helps that he is a man committed to Christ and the gospel that set him free, gave him purpose and gives him hope for the future. It’s been my privilege to do Kingdom business with him and his beautiful wife, Maggie, over the last few years and he has inspired me in a number of ways.

One of those ways is how, because of Jesus, he endeavours to be a man in pursuit of wisdom. Kelvin – who I refer to admiringly as my Captain – loves the book of Proverbs. I remember one of our initial conversations was around the love of that book because of the wisdom that it offers. I took a step back and really admired how Kelvin was totally sold out not to just glean information, but to truly be a practitioner of the wisdom God generously gives.

It was by the advice of Kelvin that I took to be a bit more focused and disciplined with my blogging routine. When I came to reorganise the way the blog functioned, there was a theme that I knew was applicable to all of life and that theme was wisdom.

Wisdom is an essential and priceless quality to exercise. After exploring a spell in quotes of sorts, I thought the wider issue of wisdom would be a better use of my writing. Hence the series – A Word of Wisdom – started in earnest in September this year. The beauty of wisdom is that it is deep and rich and diverse in its nature. It’s a well that you can keep coming to again and again and always be replenished by what you get from it.

The exploration of the word of wisdom so far, however, has focused on what James, in the New Testament, has to say about the wisdom that comes from above in contrast to the wisdom from below. That has been such a marvellous series of words to explore.

Not easy, though, because it was a case of examining closely what motivates me, what directs me and what drives my words and actions. It’s only too easy to be deceived or deluded into operating a certain way which only reflects the wisdom that James describes as earthly and demonic.

The series was also very good in reminding me of why Jesus is the source of wisdom and His example is one that I should follow when it comes to applying the wisdom that comes from above.

There’s still much to explore when it comes to wisdom and its vital application in life today. I look forward to exploring those further in blog entries and other means as God gives me the grace.

Thanks once more to my good friend and dear brother in Christ, Kelvin, for the inspiration. I hope you will reflect on the merits of the wisdom from above as God guides you along paths of righteousness …

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom

C. L. J. Dryden
