Dryden Links: Trust – That Is All

Truly trusting is a significant act.

Disappointments and failures can condition the mind to only trust so far. to put in place certain contingencies in place to ensure that if anything happens there won’t be as much of a disappointment or a failing. It becomes such a conditioning that trust never extends too far. At the same time what can be benefited from full trust is not even seen let alone appreciated because it is never ventured.

We trust banks with our monies. We trust insurers with significant monies for the accidents and incidents that might happen. We trust authorities to rule whether at the large level or in the smaller issues like schools. We express that trust in placing finances in banks, in sending the children to the schools and so on. Whatever ‘checks’ we run, we still hand over that which we say is of value to us over to them.

Following Jesus is a journey where He requires us to hand over everything to Him. Absolutely everything. And in doing that we accept His word to lead and guide, to protect and provide. That arrangement works as long as it is Him that is doing what He said, rather than us looking to take that back from Him and do it ourselves. That’s a difficult task when everything in society has conditioned you to do anything but that.

There are some simple songs that appear simplistic, but are actually profound, that tap into something about what it is to truly trust Jesus. Take this hymn – aptly titled Trusting Jesus. Consider the lyrical content and the phases of life that it covers. It was reflecting on those words that brought me back to the place where I had to check myself to see if I was trusting in Jesus with everything and in this phase of my life.

In the light of that I’m grateful for saints encouraging and writing on the matter. I have three articles to commend for your building of faith.

Bailey Murphy shares three ways she has learnt in trusting over a year. Things she has learnt by experience and the Word. That combination offers great encouragement to those of us who are still learning and growing.

Shana Schute offers a perspective on how trusting Jesus is not just for what is to come, but for what happened in the past and for what we’re going through in the present. This is a sterling word of insight to help us apply that trust all over life.

Jennie Pollock serves up three key practical factors that help in applying that trust in Jesus. This is not written from an academic place as though she doesn’t know what se’s writing about but copying the works of others. this is coming across as the wisdom of God implanted to lead us into knowing how that trust can truly be developed in us.

Three pieces for your consideration to support you in the trusting process. I hope it does that and not only that but you’re inspired to help others with the trusting process. We will not truly flourish and succeed in life because we put our trust in the banks, the governments or the scientific and technological advances around us. Life is only ever truly experienced in its abundance when we learn to trust Jesus.

Trusting Jesus – that is all.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
