Dryden Update: Review and Preview

My Dad enjoyed his allotment. My Mum enjoyed cooking.

I know they enjoyed these things because when I have an image in my head of what they enjoyed doing those activities spring effortlessly to mind.

It would be interesting to see what my daughters would say their parents enjoy doing. What I do know is that among other things and arguably above most things, I enjoy writing. I’ve got the love of words going strong and there is no sign of the interest waning at all. The expression of the writing that I enjoy is particularly clear with the blogging.

Here’s the thing. At the start of the year, my blogging pattern was adjusted to account for a project I had in mind to complete by May. As it transpired that project had to be put on hold as I agreed to support another project – a collaborative affair. That project is called Exploring the Exodus Experience. At the time of writing you can follow that on a blog that you can access by clicking this link. The positive responses to this blog both online and offline has led to the next step in the project being to turn those articles with added material into a book, all being well.

That project has meant I’ve juggled other priorities and whilst doing that it afforded me the time to resume a daily input to the blogging. That was one of the things that inspired the Journeyman series over June and July. The other thing that inspired it was a very real sense in which the journey that I’m on was reaching a significant crossroads where certain commitments were concerned. The Journeyman entries over the two months offered the ripe opportunity to pour out reflections and contemplations whilst considering the journey itself. It was good blogging not just with the regularity, but with that focus as well.

The plan was that this Journeyman series would end as July ended. That means something different in August. There are a dew things I’m considering writing on using this platform in the coming days and weeks. As at times this blog has featured series on a weekly basis, the likelihood is that this will be the case going forward. So as you check in, you should notice the pattern developing with certain days featuring certain themes. I won’t spoil that for you, but let you read it as it rolls out. For August, as I understand it at this time, it’s likely that blogging will continue on the daily basis. I don’t write that glibly. Writing is not something that I take for granted even if it’s something I enjoy. There is a reason that I end the entries the way I do, it’s because it’s as much an offering in service to the Lord who equips me to write, as it is an offering of service to you the reader.

With that being said, I hope you enjoy and are somewhat edified by what is offered on this blog in the coming days and so on. While that is the hope, what I can say for now is how thankful I am for your ongoing interest in reading the material on the blog. Thank you for your time in reading these posts as they pop on.

In football (or soccer if you must) – something else I enjoy, albeit the observing of it rather than playing it – August sees the start of a new season. There’s a real sense in which that is the case with the blogging to come. Please pray for me and with me that this new season will be a good one – a very good one.

Thanks.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
