He clearly took this seriously.
When he was told that he was going to go out for a walk he asked the key questions. Where was he going? How long would he be out? What would he need for the walk? Was there anything else he should be aware of? He was the kind of person that didn’t want to leave anything to chance. He did not want to start something that he was not able to complete.
As soon as he got the information available to him, he ensured he was well prepared for the journey ahead. More than the physical preparation, however, his commitment to mentally being prepared. It was only a walk, but if he approached it with the right frame of mind, what might be something casual to someone else, could be a great opportunity for him. He was not going to miss out.
Following Jesus is fascinating.
The thing about following implies that He’s going somewhere and looks to take me along. Where He’s leading me is a lot more about character development than it is about a physical location or state of existence. He’s taking me on a journey of knowing him more and living in the light of what it is to know Him.
This is no straightforward task. It’s not straightforward because of the forces of resistance and obstruction. the worse of those forces still lurk within me in my thoughts from time to time. Considering all this there are times where Jesus graciously reminds me that I’ve got to take this seriously. Not to be sour faced as though the piece of fruit I sucked was a slice of lemon and not orange. No, to be aware of just how important this journey is.
He calls me to take it seriously and day by day learn what it is to see opportunities with Him. Be prepared in mind as well as elsewhere. Have the desire to trust Him with everything and see how He makes the next step clear for me. In the family, at work, engaging with others on mission – gaining that degree of being intentional when it comes to seeking His Kingdom and its righteousness.
Ther are certain areas that have been neglectedwhilst I’ve attended to other things. That was necessary for a brief season, but it was never meant to be the permanent situation. That which was put aside for a while, must be taken up as an expression of dedication to the journey. It is time once more to apply myself to that which pleases and honours Him as I get on with what is pleasing to Him.
Are you taking the journey seriously?
