But There Is One Thing …

They mocked him for what he couldn’t do.

He didn’t pass as well as a lot of the players. He didn’t sprint as fast as the other players. His headers were not as strong as the other players. He wasn’t as skilful as a lot of the other players. He didn’t have flair like some of the other players.

They mocked him, but one person recognised that there was one thing he could do. So they simply put him in the position where he could do that and soon the mocking stopped and people acknowledged that not only did he not need the other things, but the one thing he could do, he did very well indeed.

They laughed at her for what she didn’t know.

She didn’t know about the brand names to get and wear. She didn’t know about the shoes that would make her look stylish. She didn’t know what the others knew about how to get men. She didn’t know about the trendy cultural icons of the day and who to follow. She didn’t know about the social media apps she needed to have and be on. She didn’t know much academically either.

They laughed at her, but one person recognised that there was one thing she knew and could apply that very well. Not just that, but when she applied that area of knowledge to looking after people and showing them care and attention, she did it in genuinely life-changing ways. People soon came to see that all the things that she didn’t know were fairly vacuous and pathetic in contrast with what she did know and how she did what she knew very well indeed.

They can laugh at what you can’t do. They can mock you for what you don’t know. They can ridicule you because you’re not up with it. They can scorn you because you’re not down with it. They can do all of that …

But one thing you know is that for all their laughter, mockery, ridicule and scorn, there is something you can do. There is something you know. There is a place in life for which you are ideally suited and in that position, your place to shine and make a difference will be so brilliant that all of that scorn, mockery, ridicule and laughter can be disposed of for the foolishness it is.

You know this because the Creator of the universe did not make a mistake when you were made. You were not created for mockery, ridicule and scorn. You were created to be a blessing to others through the gift and ability you have. Even if it’s in the one thing you can do or the one thing you know.

They can laugh, but you know one thing …
