There is good news worth sharing.
What makes it good news is not just what it does for me in a personal way. What makes it good news is more than just what I get out of it, or what you get out of it.
The good news worth sharing gets to the heart of everything.
We can agree that there are bad things going on in the world. We can agree with that because we have a concept of what is bad. It’s not unrealistic to suggest that acknowledging the bad expresses a distaste for it and a preference for what is good.
What makes things bad at the moment? Is that what was supposed to be the case? Is there a better way? Is there a good way to respond to the bad?
Here’s where the good news really kicks in. That which is bad around us is not the end of the story and was not meant to be the whole of the story. Somemay refer to particular reigns of terror, but what if there’s a case where as long as that which is bad affects the stories of life there will always be a rule of terror? And what if that terror is just as much about our own self-centred desire to rule over others?
More than that, what if this rule of terror can be stopped once and for all? That would be good news. What if that rule of terror can be replaced with the rule of what’s right? That would be good news. What if that would have a cosmic ripple effect so that it’s not just human relations that are brought into what is right and good, but all of creation is ruled by what is right and good? That would be good news.
That is the good news.
There is more. This rule is not expressed by a distant figure that cannot be related to or experienced. This rule is not conducted by someone who appeared in great pomp and ceremony with all the money and all the political and military influence. This rule is personified in the Son of God who takes on human flesh and humbles Himself in obedience to serve, suffer and die taking on Himself all that which prompted the evil in the world. Took it on Himself and defeated it in His death and resurrection. This rule is seen in Him and this rule overcomes all that would oppose it, as He conquered death and the devil.
That is not just an historical event from over 2000 years ago. This is a reality for those who hear and put thier faith in the Son of God who lives out this rule. Because He rules death si defeated. Because He rules, evil will not be the final note in life. Because He rules the beauty of wholeness can be experienced – as a foretaste now in preparation of the fullness to come.
That’s good news worth sharing.
