(Welcome to Eden Weekly, the blog inspired by the name of the ministry of Shirley R. Evans. I hope you will be duly encouraged and challenged by the words she offers. For His Name’s Sake, Shalom, C. L. J. Dryden)
The word “pearl” is from the Greek word “margarites.” From which we get the English names Margaret & Margarita.
Pearls are formed inside the shell of an oyster- a grain of sand or grit gets inside the oyster shell and irritates the oyster. In response to the pain caused by this grain of grit the oyster secretes a smooth substance around the grit which over time hardens into a pearl. This hardening takes place over a period of around 3 years. The more pain the bigger the pearl.
Pearls are not easy to find. To obtain the richest and most beautiful pearls a diver must dive again and again, then after lifting the shells from the sea floor, he must force open the mouth of each shell. Once that’s done he must dig through the meat of the muscle, poking, searching for the tiny white pearl that has formed over time.
These pearls are precious, rare and extremely valuable as they were so costly to obtain.
You are a vessel holding these pearls. This is how we should view the things God has done in your life. You are a living testimony of the transforming power of the blood of Jesus:
- You have walked your testimony,
- You have swum through many deep waters,
- The scalpel of God’s word has dug deep into the crevices of your heart and cut away much, unblocked much and cleaned much to arrive at this point.
Not that you have already attained but you continue to press. You are not a result of shallow water swimming – no – you have gone deep to be the awesome man/woman of God you are today.
But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.
2 Corinthians 4:7
We are a treasure chest housing God’s pearls.
The pearls you house are precious to you because you understand what it took for it to be formed. Other people they don’t get it, they don’t understand, they haven’t walked in your shoes.
All the more reason to cherish the pearls we have, because it would be a pity if … well …
