Meet her for the first time. Get into a conversation with her. Develop a good relationship. Offer the proposal to her. Marry her. Produce children together. Bring them up to the best of you ability. See them have families of their own.
Each of these instances outlines a course of action.
There is a desired outcome in that course and to reach that outcome you must go through the process that the course outlines. There are many competing courses offered in life. These various courses require the investment of time, effort and passion in a bid to give yourself the best chance of achieving the desired outcome.
Not all courses are set out in totality at the start. Some courses offer the desired outcome and an approach to gradually reaching it. As they do so, they make that desired outcome of greater value and as being worth the investment required.
When Jesus invited a few fishermen to give up their trade in life, He did so inviting them on a course of being crafted into fishers of men. Fishers of men given the opportunity to see them likewise join the course of light, life and righteousness that Jesus lived and showed to be of the greatest value. This course is not predictable, it is not straightforward and it is not easy. This course relies a lot on those who take it, giving up on self-reliance to allows the life of Christ to carry on through the course. For all the challenges in the course, however, the prize is far greater than the setbacks.
The devotion to the work is such that it does not allow for a similar investment to other courses. But so enriching and involving is the course, that there’s a good reason to suggest why would you go for an alternative course anyway. Nevertheless it is something that we need to be refreshed on and reminded on the desired outcome that’s being offered.
The course set before us may not be straightforward and full of challenges. Progress can be made in this journey as long as we FOCUS.
