What is this gnawing away at him?
He could just carry on like everyone else. It clearly doesn’t bother anyone else. People either don’t say anything or even laugh at the thought of being bothered by it. He should just be among them and not let it affect him.
But it gnaws away at him. He knows that there’s more to it than what he says and he cannot just leave it as it is. He cannot just go with the flow. He knows that to do so would be dishonest to what he holds valuable. Yet the problem is how much it would affect him even if he were to do it discreetly. It would affect his credibility with his peers. his peers who trumpet other issues as though they’re devastating to society and yet don’t give any notice to what they’re doing in this area. They have their list and this issue isn’t.
It’s bizarre coming across people who make such an impassioned defence of something that is not worth the effort and are so apathetic to something like this.
Yet it’s not about them. It’s not about what they do, it’s about what he does. As long as he keeps carrying on with the others, it gnaws away at him.
It gnaws away until he knows there’s a decision to be made …
