The deal was that whoever responded the right way would be the winner.
The two forces had been competing for the attention of the people. The people had hovered over the two opinions and were favourable to one or the other almost at a whim. Indeed some would make a front of supporting the one whilst actively supporting the other. It was never about what the mouth was saying, it was always about how the heart was determining actions.
That could not last forever. Something had to happen to declare one the clear winner in the argument.
So they held the competition. Everything favoured one side and they had the advantage of going first. The passion was real. The enthusiasm could not be denied. The fervour was so high pitched that if effort was the measure for success they would have won several times. Yet for all the popularity and influence there was no response to their efforts.
One man stood for the other side. The neglected side. The downtrodden side. The maligned side. One man took the stand. One man made a simple request. One made looked for the response where others didn’t say a thing to support. Yet one man was all it took. One man’s sincere prayer was all it took for the nation to know who ruled in the affairs of man.
One man’s cry got the required response.
