When We Reach Our Destination

Yes indeed, the journey should not be dismissed. The journey, the process of becoming is something worth appreciating and enjoying.

Yet there is something to be said about when we reach our destination.

There’s something fascinating about teaching – in whatever method you use. Teaching takes the learner from one state to another. There is the state of where they have not as yet learnt. There is then the state of learning and finally there is that place where they have successfully learnt what was shared. Indeed for some, effective learning has taken place not only when the learner is able to do what has been learnt, but is also able to teach others what they have learnt.

You can see the journey concept in teaching and learning. You can also see the delight that comes from reaching the destination. That joy in the destination is seeing the one who has reached, embarking on the journey with others.

That aspect of the destination being something to treasure is also seen in what appears to be simple things such as relationships. The parent and child dynamic goes from the nurture stage to getting the child to a stage of independence and interdependence. In a real way there’s a place the parent wants the child to reach and success is seen for some by that child embarking on that journey with a child of their own.

It won’t take much to imagine, then, what it’s like to have been in the dark for so long and for someone to turn on the light. Then after that light shines to see a way made clear. And then when the way is made clear to be given the steps to take and the character required to proceed along that way. This is all good news and it’s great to know that you can come across this news. It’s better to know you can receive the news and get on the journey. It’s even better to know that there is a destination you can reach. And even better than that it’s great to know that realising this journey available, you can invite others to take that same journey as well.

Taking delight in the wonders to discover on the journey is one thing. It’s better still to get an ever clearer picture of the destination that makes the journey worthwhile.
