They want your vote.
A vote for them is a vote for change. A vote for them is a vote for things getting better. A vote for them is a vote for the ones who listen and respond decisively to provide what you know is needed for a better world.
You vote for them and expect them to live up to their promises. Even if it’s a case of the lesser of two evils, there is still a minimal expectation that there is at least the appearance of working to make things better. The season comes and goes, assessments are made on performance and however bright and sparkling things appeared at the start, time wears away any glitter of hope. In its place is a world weary sense of just looking for something different to perhaps inject something promising. The returns, however, appear to dwindle.
This is contrasted with a rule where the invitation is to see every day as truly offering something different, brighter and better in the revelation of the one who rules It’s not an empty promise of every day being happy and trouble-free. It’s not the promise of life without suffering. This is the invitation to tunnel deep into the meaning of life and discover a Creator’s delight to express Himself through those He created. A character planted and developed in the individual and collective that reflects the living hope exhibited by the One who defeated death itself.
This is not based on the power of the vote. It is about the daily commitment to follow the rule of the One who exemplified service of others and sacrifice for friends. To follow this rule is to see that the King is in charge and will be in charge forever whether there is consent or not. Giving in to this rule is to acknowledge now what will universally be acknowledged eventually.
This concession, however, is not to resign to an overbearing relentless rule of drudgery. It is to discover what freedom is truly about. It is to embrace something both liberating and sobering. Sobering to realise just how much it costs to make peace and live in harmony with others. Liberating to realise just how much it blesses to do what it takes to make peace and live in harmony with others.
This is not something you vote for. This is something that you invest trust in.
