Who was that? Coming towards them in the distance was a figure on a horse. As they looked closer they noticed it was a familiar figure.
Every time they had been to Shunem, she had always looked after them. Such a generous hostess. A room with a bed and table. That kind of hospitality had left such an impression on them that they were only too happy to seek God on her behalf to give her the desire of her heart. Despite the odds being against it, lo and behold, she became the doting and devoted mother to a beautiful boy. That was years ago.
Here she was approaching them, but it wasn’t clear why she was here. Usually he might get an indication or some discernment, but on this occasion there was nothing.
Advanced word to her didn’t produce anything. They had to wait until she arrived and then she shared her story.
She hadn’t begged for the son, she didn’t want to be deceived.
Clearly something was up with the son, so maybe sending the assistant and the man of God’s rod would effect some change.
That would not satisfy this woman – she was insistent. She was persistent. The man of God that had granted the son was now responsible for this situation that was her plight. She was insistent. She was persistent.
The man of God took this on board and acted on it. He remembered the story his mentor had told him of a similar situation. A boy had died and he was able to raise the boy from the dead. It was one thing to hear that story, now here he was faced with the situation. His mentor was not around to help now. He would rely on the same God who guided his mentor.
Sure enough, by the power of God, this boy who was dead was now alive.
This woman proved to be more than just generous in her hospitality. There was something about her persistence.
