Everybody Needs A Rhoda (Part 1)

Their guy was in prison.

It did not look good.

One of their own had already suffered a state execution. That decision had gone down well with the establishment. The man in charge was keen to add their guy to the list. Although the festival meant a stay of execution, it was surely a matter of time before their guy would meet the end.

They still thought it would be a good idea, though, to meet at the home and pray. Asking for God to have mercy on him. Asking for God to hear their cry. Even asking God to show His power against this manipulative figure in charge. There were some passionate prayers … but they knew that … maybe … perhaps they should prepare themselves for …

She rushed into the room and could not contain her excitement,

“He’s here! He’s here! Peter is here!”

“What? You’re crazy.”

“No, he’s here! He’s here! I heard him! I saw him! He’s here.”

“You must be talking about his angel.”

“It wasn’t his angel – it’s him. He’s really here!”

“Hush now with your silliness, maybe you heard a ghost.”

“I am serious. He’s alive and well. He’s right at the gate.”

“Somebody go with her to check what’s going on at the gate, just to relieve her poor soul.”

“I tell you, he’s here!!”

“OK, OK, OK, I hear you, come on, let’s go check on the door, I mean if he’s here, why didn’t you let him in?”

“Oh yeah … but I was so excited! You were all here praying for him and …”

“Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever let’s just see who is at the … oh … oh my … oh my G..”

“I told you! Come in, Peter!!”

“Ssssssssshhhhhhhhhh …”

“Peter?! It’s really you??!!! She was right?!! You’re here!! Oh my G…”

“Yes, yes, keep it down, we don’t want to make too much of a noise – walls have ears and everything.”

“Oh my Lord, I can’t believe it. You’re really here. We thought we’d lost you. I just … I just can’t believe it.”

“Well … here I am, thanks be to God. Have I got a story to tell you …”

“I told you, he’s here! I told you, I told you – oh I’m so glad that you’re here!”

“OK, OK, OK, we should have believed you, Rhoda. To be fair, you were at the right place at the right time. Truly everybody needs a Rhoda.”
