Who Rules? Your Kingdom Come

Every day, we have the chance to show who is in charge.

We make decisions that clearly shows that there are forces that have control in our situation. We make the choices that highlights what has the steering wheel of the vehicle of life.

This issue can be a thorny and touchy subject for some. It is that way, because of conditioning that gives the impression that you can rule yourself. You can be in charge. You can do whatever it is you want to do and nothing and no one should force you to do otherwise. Whenever the issue of rule comes in, red flags are raised about manipulation and control. Those trigger all manner of negative connotations, often about situations other than our own. It’s other than our own, because we’re given the news that we live in a free country and that the rule of law offers liberty to those in the society. We’re alright. It’s not perfect, we remind ourselves. There’s some ugly things going on, we say. Yet we assure ourselves that we’re alright in this freedom that apparently we have and we’re under no one’s control.

This is what makes the radical invitation of the Kingdom of God all the more outstanding. The call to the Kingdom exposes the fores actually in operation that renders the world in darkness. A darkness that needs the light of God not just to point out the flaws and faults in the status quo – but to show that there’s something on offer that can be experienced wherever we are and in whatever condition we find ourselves. The light shows a rule of righteousness, peace and joy. The light shows a rule of mercy, humility and purity. The light shows a rule of justice, harmony and grace. This is completely different to any rule currently in operation.

What is particularly amazing about this rule is that there is one who personifies it – fittingly the King of the Kingdom itself.

Acknowledging and embracing this changes our attitude and behaviour over time. It changes our conversation and desires in growth and development. It shapes our lives now and forever in maturity.

Every day we get the chance to see this Kingdom in action and ask for this Kingdom to come and establish itself right in our circumstances, right in our home, right in our relationship.

We get to see that as we ask for the Kingdom to come, so we align our lives, habits, attitudes, thoughts, words, relationships, pursuits, activities to this wonderful Kingdom led by King Jesus Himself.

As we do so we demonstrate and declare the radical message of the Kingdom – Jesus is Lord.
