In Need Of You

God has placed people and episodes in life to show that we are in need of Him.

Stubborn resistance to it, dismissive reproach of it and feigning ignorance and apathy to it makes it no less the case that these incidents and individuals are there and have been there. They are there to help us appreciate however independent we want to be and however much we want to be the ones in charge and in control, the reality remains we are but finite creatures in need of the infinite Creator. Functioning, thinking, feeling and acting as we do without Him or without acknowledging the need for Him diminishes and fragments the fullness of humanity that nudges at the conscience.

An argument suggests that it’s important to meet the essential and immediate felt needs of the moment. The hunger, the need for clothing and shelter, and relationships that enrich the human experience. These felt needs are to be met as a priority before the God-talk can take place. Certainly the knowledge that care and compassion is at the heart of action is certainly a good thing. Yet when we come into contact with the Creator and experience what He has done, is doing and will do, when we come into contact with the Son who took on flesh and died to restore a right relationship with God then we can begin to see why the greatest need in life is for Him.

It tugs at the heart strings to witness others endeavouring to do what they can to exist without God. It tugs to see them struggle and shrug off God as a preference for others that they choose to opt out of. It is sad to observe when it is so clear that they are in need of Him, as we ever remain in need of Him.

Likewise it is among the most thrilling and invigorating experiences to see the light shine in and an individual to recognise for themselves and embrace the invitation to know God. Embrace that invitation and embark on that relationship with the King of the universe and discover the great contrast to be found enjoying the kingdom of light as opposed to the dark they expired in previously.

Such is the thrill and such is the need that this is what inspires me to persevere and be grateful that God perseveres with me. Persevere and look to make the most of the openings presented and instigated to share the deepest answer to the greatest need.

That need for God as He expresses Himself in Jesus Christ.

Lord we are in need of You.
