It was a good time to reflect.
Their parents left their country to settle in this one. Both of them had not received education to a high degree. Both of them sought to work hard in this country and provide the foundation for their children to have a decent upbringing especially when it came to education. The thinking behind it was that this would give them the best platform to aspire to be better than them.
The children grew up, went through higher education, established themselves in decent paying jobs, married and had children. Those children were brought up in environments better than what their parents had experienced. The desire for these children is that they would have the kind of upbringing that would give them the best platform to aspire to be better than them.
The team had been successful. Over the years it had taken steps of progress under one manager who brought them up to the top division and win a few trophies. He put in place the infrastructure for the team to aspire to be better when he left.
As he moved on his successors built on that success and gradually won more and played even better. Each manager took to heart what had worked before and developed something pertinent for the time pushing success further and developing a wider perspective of what success looked like. This was done with the hope that future managers would continue to aspire to be better.
Each new generation of the family and iteration of the team had the challenge of establishing a definition of success for themselves. They referred to their predecessor for wisdom and guidance, before applying that in the context of the day they were in. As they did this, they did not just seek what was good for the time, but also indicated what would help going forward.
Each new generation of the family and iteration of the team would not rest on their laurels and think that success was something to just be enjoyed for its own sake. Whilst ever seeking the next step of development, they appreciated those times when the best action was to consider what had gone on before.
It was a good time to reflect.
