Leading by Hope

Appealing to base instincts.

Present something that threatens someone’s sense of security and comfort and it can successfully ignite impulsive fearful responses. Project that same presentation and that nagging feeling can influence actions and attitudes.

It is much harder to lead by hope. Especially where that hope appears so fragile, so far away and so unlikely when crisis comes That’s why when troubles come it can be easier to make little compromises here and there. Let those little compromises continue and that original picture of hope can appear blurred beyond recognition.

It’s not easy to lead by hope. But it is possible. It is possible if that hope that is set remains a vibrant, captivating and living hope. It is possible when that hope is faithfully presented in all circumstances and is a balm in time of hurt. It is possible when that hope is declared and galvanises the faithful following to keep going.

It is far better to lead by hope. Not any hope, though. Not the flaky hopes that fritter under the weight of reality. No. This is about the hope that reshapes reality in the bright light of truth, love, justice and righteousness.

It is for the presentation of that living hope to emerge.
