The end of the year is nigh and some people will be looking forward to holiday celebrations and the things associated with the start of a new year.
It’s a good time to reflect on what’s happened over the last twelve months and to see what went well and what didn’t go so well. It’s also a good time, however, to consider not so much the New Year’s Resolutions, more about how things have gone in reference to expectations that you have for your year or your life.
That only works, however, if you have expectations. For some, they’re so used to life happening to them and having to respond to those things that they set aside any sense of expectation and work to survive. In fact in their youth they used to have expectations, lofty ambitions, big goals. They used to dream big dreams and hope some day maybe they would come true. The relentless nature of life, though, soon put an end to those aspirations.
Now they don’t have to live with disappointment, because they have no expectations.
What a way to live.
