So they’re with you.
They’ve heard the offer, they’ve caught a glimpse of the vision. They’ve seen you’re up for the journey – and that idea of where they’re going will be compelling.
They’re with you. For now.
They left where they were. They haven’t reached where you’ve promised. Then there comes the problems. No journey to something so compelling is trouble-free. Nothing of such great value and such great promise will come easily.
It’s the matter, then, of how we deal with those problems so the journey doesn’t end without reaching the destination. It’s the matter of how to ensure people stay on the journey. There’s the challenge. Dealing with the immediate in the light of the bigger picture. Whilst not minimising the issue of the present, it’s also about not crowding out that bigger picture. There is also something about faith and commitment that is tested during those problematic situations.
However compelling that picture is of the Promised Land and however attractive it appears, there is no guarantee that everyone who sets out for it, will be there for the end of it. The issue remains, however, will you keep going and will there be others going with you towards that promised land?
After those problems – who’s with you now?
