Right People in the Right Place

Wisdom is so crucial to living well. Without it you have no chance.

A piece of wisdom I received a long time ago is one that I’ve see great benefit from. That piece of wisdom is that it’s important to surround yourself with the right people.

By God’s grace, I was considered to be the right person on a number of projects. I had the great opportunity of being selected by people to come along with them to accomplish  particular goals for particular seasons. I don’t say that to make me look good, I say that because those experiences taught me clearly that if you have the right people with you – through the storm as well as the sunshine – then progress can be made and the success is all the sweeter for it.

It’s very interesting shifting from one being selected for a team to being among those who are doing the selecting. It’s interesting because in as much as you can have a  rigorous recruitment and vetting process with forms, interviews, assessment centres and references it is really only in the course of time that you recognise who those right people are. The reality remains that there is no guarantee when you make a selection. The real deal beyond the paperwork is the investment of trust and faith that gives the opportunity for those selected to prove themselves to be worthy of being chosen.

There’s also got to be that degree of wisdom in place to detect when seasons change and personnel needs to change in the light of that. Faithfulness is not expressed as permanence in a given position and situation. Faithfulness can often call for movement to offer space for others to grow.

This underscores why when it comes to relationships and being with the right people – wisdom is so crucial. Without it you have no chance.

With it, you can succeed beyond your own expectations.
