When you make that decision to go forward, one of the things that is set to thwart you is when the rain falls.
When the rain falls, perhaps you should wait until it abates. When the rain falls there’s every chance that you’re going to get soaked and who really wants that. When the rain falls it’s supposed to get you to think if this is something that you really need to do at this time. Is it something that you really need to do at all?
When the rain falls and the puddles expand, the walkway appears more treacherous. When the rain falls and the splatter gets heavier it can even attempt to block the way forward and your view of it. Maybe it was better if you just postpone it. Is this really something that had to do at all?
There is something, however, truly invigorating and satisfying about that determination to keep on going even when the rain falls. It’s not as though you didn’t know rain would fall. In fact you know full well that conditions around you can change, but the journey and the task remains. You are well equipped for these conditions, you have just what you need to be able to negotiate the challenges you face. As each splatter comes down, it just reminds you of the mercy-drops as the prelude to the showers of blessing that won’t just be your portion, but will benefit those who are recipients of the journey you undertake.
The rain fall is not the time to question the mission. The rain fall is not the time to doubt the journey. The rain fall is precisely the time to use what you’ve been equipped for these circumstances – the overcoat of encouragement, the boots of perseverance and the umbrella of praise.
You don’t have to stop the rain falling, but the rain fall will not stop you from walking on.
