About Progress – A Prayerful Reflection

You know all about progress.

In the beginning, you created the heavens and earth. On day one you created light. On day two you separated the heavens from the earth and established the realms. On day three you divided the land from the waters and on the land you allowed vegetation to sprout.

On day four you set in place the stars and chief ones to rule the night and day and established the measures by which seasons would be recorded. On day five you populated the seas and the air with the creatures that inhabit those spheres. On day six you populated the land with the creatures that inhabit that sphere and peaked it all by saying to yourself that you would make man in your own image. So you did that – male and female you created them.

Then on day seven having completed your work you rested. When I review that, Lord, I can see clearly that there was a work in progress. Things were put in place and worked cohesively until the whole was in place at which time you reviewed your work and said it was very good.

It was only very good at the end when the work was complete and functioning as it should in total harmony the very picture of shalom that reflects your heavenly rule because that’s your character by nature. Along the way you remarked that things were good, but it was only when the process was complete that you remarked that things were very good.

Things were good in the progress, but it’s at the completion of the process that things are very good when you’re the author of it. When I look back on my life, for all the pitfalls, setbacks, failings and disasters, as long as you were at the centre of things there’s clear evidence of a work in progress.

There’s clear evidence of a work in progress where you remarked on things that were good.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
