Recovering.
There are those who have gone through seasons of depression and addiction. The darkness can seem never ending. To be given an opportunity for some relief and deliverance from the condition can be the most exciting, energising and liberating experience in life.
Faith can keep us going, but faith does not make us overconfident. It does not assume that we will never be susceptible again. There’s enough in experience to indicate that we can be only one moment away from falling, one moment away from relapsing, one moment away from days, weeks, months and even years of hard work in recovery slipping away. One moment, one stray thought, one blow struck at a vulnerable moment, one time of weakness that opens the door to a failing.
You can get complacent and even think to yourself that you can handle everything well and you don’t need any help. It’s then that a path can be laid out for you to brought down with shattering crash.
Faith does not usher in overconfidence, but it does remind us in moments that we are also a moment away from relying on the source of life. We’re a moment away from making a call for help and receiving it just when we need it. We’re a moment away from taking a needed step back and a step away from something that could lead to destruction. We’re a moment away from being grateful that we not on our own in the journey, we don’t have to suffer and don’t have to depend on willpower or our own resources to be able to endure.
We are ever living one moment away – from a fall or an uplift.
By faith, let’s go for the lift.
