He has this brilliant idea. They will reflect Him on the earth. As He rules in heaven, they will rule on earth.
So when He creates the first one and puts him in the garden to tend it, He’s very aware in the process that this is not the end of the process. There’s only one of him and it’s not good that he’s alone. He’ll need some help here.
The building project is intrinsically based on a relationaly dynamic on the earth. Reflecting a dynamic element above. It needs two becoming one to make this work on earth. When the first one is presented with the helper, he’s literally beside himself with delight at what he beholds. He offers a song of praise and they get on with the work together establishing the pattern.
It is God that highlights the problem, but it’s the man who benefits from the solution. That realisation that we cannot do it on our own and that we need help is tremendously and refreshingly humbling. There’s a great focus on self, independence and autonomy. Those buzz words and the thought that you can make it on your own with a nominal acknowledgement of others being of use to you betrays the heart of rebellion from the idea God had in mind and expressed in creation. It’s no wonder people turn out to love things and use people. In this perspective people are only of use in as much as they fulfil our self-centred desires. In this view if my needs are not met and my desires not satisfied I will ditch hte person and just look to consume whatever can feed my ever expanding ego and sense of self-importance.
This is why it’s refreshing to step off that vicious cycle and be reminded of a better way to live. A way where we’re helping each other out to look after the gift God has given so we can reflect a righteous rule producing peace and joy as it’s all based on a love that seeks the best for the other before self.
That sort of giving love that acts by the commitment to give whether reciprocated or not is something that’s not natural to the human experience at this time. Yet it was always a part of the design for humanity. It’s something that’s available for us who turn back to God the Builder.
He is building something great. We get to be a part of the action when we start with that acknowledgement – we need some help here.
For His Name’s Sake
