Defying All Odds – Jesus is Lord

In the midst of political contention, Jesus is Lord. Where there’s ambitious sniping and griping, Jesus is Lord. Where attaining positions leads to a superiority complex, Jesus is Lord. Where a person’s identity is linked to a title, Jesus is Lord.

Where the poor are oppressed and the rich are filled with greed, Jesus is Lord. Where injustice discriminates and iniquity abounds, Jesus is Lord. Where policies fail to meet the needs of those who need it most, Jesus is Lord. Where those on the outskirts are kept disenfranchised, Jesus is Lord. Where pity is allowed, but action is neglected, Jesus is Lord.

Where consumers are pawns in the great conquest of the exploitation of people, Jesus is Lord. Where those in positions of influence and authority use people and love things, Jesus is Lord. Where the price goes up and the wages don’t match, Jesus is Lord.

Where the cynic sneers and the critic objects, Jesus is Lord. When wrong is made right and right is seen as wrong, Jesus is Lord. Where the heart is crushed as the pride of man is inflated, Jesus is Lord.
When those who take a stand for righteousness are pilloried and mocked whilst those who promote corrosive ideals are lauded and applauded, Jesus is Lord. Where success is measured by material goods and baubles rather than character development in humility, Jesus is Lord. When aspiring for progress has to come at the expense of relationships in clinical and dismissive expressions, Jesus is Lord.

When the concept of jubilee and genuine alleviation of oppression appear as mirages and fantasies, Jesus is Lord. Where death and division are legalised and honour and faithfulness criminalised, Jesus is Lord. When the voice for the voiceless is corrupted and perverted, Jesus is Lord.

When the man preaching is only bothered about your material welfare with scant concern for the state of your soul, Jesus is Lord. When the gathering is more about entertainment and tickling of itching ears, Jesus is Lord.

When ambiguity and being vague is in vogue and sharing confidence in certain realities is degraded, Jesus is Lord. Where she is abused and he is despised, Jesus is Lord. When they are ostracised for their faith, Jesus is Lord. When they laugh and joke at the things of eternal importance, Jesus is Lord. When they build and idolise the structures that go against Him, Jesus is Lord. When they think He is of irrelevance and feel their issues are of far greater importance, Jesus is Lord.

He is Lord – not because we want Him. He is Lord because we need Him. And whether we accept it now or not, one day – defying and defeating all these dire scenarios – every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus is Lord to the glory of God the Father.

For His Name’s Sake

Shalom
