Jesus tells a story.
In it a father has two sons. He tells them both to go do something. The first son says he will, but then doesn’t. The second son at first says he won’t do it but then goes on to do it
Jesus then outlines to those listening that there are some who would appear to be second in the race who are actually going to progress because they hear it and they do what’s required. They repent, they turn to embrace the Kingdom. They do more than those who might make a claim to be be obedient but whose attitude lacks.
There is something about serving that is based more on what you do than on what you profess. Anyone can profess to do something, but it’s always been more about the actions that show whether we’re hearers and doers or just players.
The story is appropriate. The kind of mentality that sees progress is those who hear it and do it.
