Prayer for Change – That Kind of Love

This love is perfect – it’s a perfect love.

Not driven by sentiment or requires soft music and appeals to the heart. It is not dependent on how you react or motivated to wait for another to act first.

This love looks at the broken, disregarded and abused and extends companionship, healing and restoration. This love supports the development of living the wise kind of life taking each decision carefully and measuring it to what is right for others. This love seeks the best in others before itself. This love is not exploiting others as it goes on a power trip of self-gratification.

This love turns the other cheek and walks the extra mile. This love supports the humble and the meek. This love delights in the truth and shuns the very appearance of evil. This love works hard to make sure justice and mercy prevails. This love is not quick to condemn but eager to give opportunities for redemption.

This love looks at difference as something to celebrate in the light of the truth. This love breaks down barriers to make peace. This love addresses what causes division and strife to actively build lasting harmony between parties on that basis of truth. This love perseveres in all circumstances, however tough and messy it gets. This love is faithful and devoted, not given to quitting at the first sign of resistance.

This love makes a stand against pride and selfish ambition. This love kicks out fear and has no time for gossip and slander. This love cuts out any root of bitterness or malice. This love sees no threat in the stranger and is ready to extend true hospitality. This love is not fussed about building empires that reach to the sky. This love is keen to see the rule from heaven established among the lowly.

This is the love that is ridiculed, mocked and scorned. This love is beaten and nailed to a cross. This love looks at those who opposed Him and still extended the chance to be forgiven. This love went to the ultimate degree to make the way clear for even enemies to have a right relationship and access to the best quality of life.

Where other types of love are held as the most desirable, we are thankful that this perfect love is real and changes lives daily. Our desire is to treasure this love and learn to live by this love – this love is perfect – the perfect love.

Father, thank you for your transforming love. Thank you that we see it in Jesus Christ. Thank you that we see it through your Holy Spirit. Now we trust and pray that we will be motivated by this perfect love to express this truth to others for your glory.
