There’s this riff that Jesus has with his disciples and that’s referring to them as ‘you of little faith’. The little faith folks if you will.
He would apply that riff whenever those disciples had got things slightly out of order. Why worry when God cares, you little faith folks? Why have you started sinking when you too were walking on water, you little faith fella? Why weren’t you able to deliver that boy from demon possession, you little faith folks?
That last incident was especially revealing because as soon as He brought that issue up, the Messiah suggested that if their faith was as small as a mustard seed they could some significant shifts.
It’s worth bearing in mind that these little faith folks had been doing some audacious feats of faith themselves, so it’s not as if faith was foreign to them.
From time to time, though, it’s good to go through experiences where Jesus can pull you up and just check to see if you have things in order. That order primarily being faith in God and everything flowing from there.
The riff is a reminder that things tend to go out of order when there’s a little drifting of the faith. Just a subtle drift to consider the circumstances around us as though they are more significant than the Father who cares. A little drift that takes the focus off the Father can be hazardous to our health.
That’s why it’s worth just checking if we have things in order.
