Saying, “I love Jesus”, is a fairly easy thing to do. Get the words in mind, get them out of the mouth and it’s done.
Showing I love Jesus is where the challenge always starts and ends. Anyone can say it, Jesus will be looking for folks who show it faithfully.
With that in mind, this journey of growing in knowing and loving Jesus, has given me plenty of insights to help me. One of those was shared by some friends who challenged me to consider Jesus in terms of His invitation to folks to come to the Kingdom.
It’s fascinating because among other things Jesus said that He was someone who didn’t have anywhere to lay his head. Yet He was inviting people all the time to come to Him. Follow Him and look out for what He’s got in store for those who remain faithful to Him. Even in His earthly ministry He practised qualities that made Him a great host.
Looking at aspects of His life, for those who followed Him they saw what it was to be the kind of host who is inviting people into His life and from that invitation they can get comfortable in that life and let that life affect them. My friends in practise displayed a discipleship model in relationship based on certain characteristics they saw in Jesus.
These traits were namely humility, obedience, submission and trust. These qualities are not the most attractive in an age where autonomy and self-reliance are lauded and alternatives are seen as signs of weakness and inadequacy. To witness them in the life of the Messiah and to understand that this is the Way that He leads us to challenged me then and challenges me now.
So it was worth considering those traits from the Saviour.
