The deal is not to get your attention – it’s to keep it.
A lot of effort goes into getting attention. Some go out of the way to put together spectacular events with outstanding marketing to grab the attention. After all, if the marketing is done well and the event is spectacular it is bound to get your attention.
The style, however, and the presentation is not the key to keeping the attention. It is the substance. There is so much to be gained from having the substance that will keep the attention. Not through gimmicks and begging appeals and trinket incentives. No it’s the the substance of what will be realised that will sustain the attention. Sometimes the power of the substance in itself will grab the attention, which is just as well because it will be the beauty and power of what is that will keep the focus.
It has been the content of the character that has kept my attention through the years. Seeing what He does is amazing, but it’s knowing why He does it – where that’s coming form, that makes it all the more enduring in its appeal. Life has subsequently allowed me to observe people do some really impressive things. Undeniably impressive though it was, it was the character that they had which appealed to me. As they focused firmly on pursuing that character that appealed so strongly. The actions were always a sign towards that character of huge appeal.
Those examples continue to highlight that character that reinforces how keeping attention is so important and cannot be done by a fizzy token effort as if life is to be lived by fireworks.
