Just Ask Him

“Just ask him.” asserted Karen.

“I don’t want to.” cowered Lily.

It was clear Lily was reluctant to ask him, even though she knew she wanted it a lot. Deborah enquired as to why Abigail didn’t want to ask him.

Maybe she didn’t think he had the ability to deliver it. Maybe he would not have the time to deliver it. Perhaps he would think it was too trivial a thing to ask about and fob her off. It could be because he kept on hearing people ask him for things that he might be sick and tired of it as though people were hounding him. She didn’t want to add to the pressure, she might just learn to cope and do without it rather than bother him and get an annoyed or angry rejection. What if he got her to think about the request? What if he asked her why and she couldn’t come up with a reason that would satisfy him?

The more she thought about it, the more Lily came to the conclusion that it would not be worthwhile asking him. It was either she wasn’t good enough or he would be too good for her. It was him or her, but either way, it was not worth the hassle.

She really wanted it, though. It wasn’t a casual thing or an indulgence. She felt she wanted it properly and it would have been better to get it with his permission rather than take matters into her own hands.

Karen then put it to Lily that perhaps she needs to get a better picture of the relationship she has with him. It would be worth her while taking another look at who he is and how that defines the relationship. In the light of that, it should remove the walls of fear and doubt she had built and she could get round to doing the simple and obvious thing.

Just ask him.
