We had come from a long way. We just had to see him.
At first it was the reports about him apparently contributing to an amazing turnaround at a wedding party. The wine was running low and the integrity of the groom was at stake, when he was able to turn a possible disaster into a cause for renewed celebration. They had never tasted wine so good.
We just had to see him.
We then heard how an official’s son was at death’s door and should by all accounts have never breathed again. This official had pleaded with the individual to come see about his son, but was told to just take his word for it that the boy would recover and unknown to him at that very moment, as he was told, his son made a return to life.
We just had to see him.
As we set about our journey news came in of a man who had been paralysed for over 38 years. He had given all hope of ever getting any progress in his situation. He thought his lot in life would forever be lying by that pool and seeing others get their healing but never get his. Yet on one fateful Sabbath, this paralysed man was instructed to get up and walk and strength entered his legs and he was restored.
We just had to see him.
Thousands of people were amazingly fed by this man, with just a few scraps of bread and fish. Yet there was enough left-over to fill a dozen baskets. He was even said to have walked on the sea n the middle of a howling storm. He definitely had our full attention.
We just had to see him.
As we got closer to the general vicinity, people told us of the incredulous episode of a man born blind being given sight. For the first time in his life – and this was no young man – he could see! So convinced and compelled was he that he had no problem being thrown out of the synagogue in preference to following this guy.
We just had to see him.
Just as our voyage was coming close to its conclusion, we even found out about a man who was dead and buried for four days and was raised from the dead all because of this man. That was incredible, extraordinary and something so profound we would not have believed it if it wasn’t for the formerly dead man himself turning up to corroborate the testimony.
What an incredible person, what an amazing man, surely he is not just a regular fellow. He must be blessed from above.
We got through the crowd and we made it to the centre of attention. We knew he was close. We just had to see him. We didn’t need to see the miracles, we didn’t need to get any other proof. We pressed through to Philip and he got Andrew, because all we had was one simple request.
We want to see Jesus.
For His Name’s Sake
Shalom
