There are times when I’ve come across comments about the way things have worked in a given place.
It has made me wonder, though, what if all the criticism misses the point? What if the system is actually working perfectly fine? What if the results that are being experienced are the ones that the system would always give? What if we are complicit by being actively engaged in keeping the system going? Criticising aspects of the system might just as well be rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. What if the whole thing doesn’t need an overhaul but a complete and utter rejection?
What if when it comes down to it, we’re very nervous at the thought of dispensing with the system? What if, for all the criticism it receives, we would not dare pursue an alternative because of the jeopardy it would bring to everything we are accustomed to?
In fact, what if the offer that was being made in the first place was not about adjusting the system, improving it or supporting it, but actively suggesting there is an alternative? What if the offer is not a better life or an improved life but a brand new life? What if we preferred the thought of an improved life than the new one?
Just a few questions I consider from time to time when I come across criticisms. Probably means nothing.
Or not.
