Trust and Promises

He calls you to put your hands in His and follow Him. Why would you trust Him?

There appears to be nothing to base it on. It might have worked for others, it doesn’t mean it will work for you.

It makes me wonder what others in the past had to trust in? When they didn’t have the reference to texts or may not even have been literate to appreciate it. When the surrounding culture and sensibility would suggest it would be nonsensical and unreasonable to take such a risk.

Trust. It is such a loaded concept. On some issues it’s taken for granted and on others it is the most important thing in the world. There is an expectation expressed when investing trust. When there is a call to extend that expectation over time there has to be something that makes the exercise worthwhile.

When that expectation is met in a small way, it can help with believing for the bigger picture. When a simple promise is kept, it is a stepping stone to believing that other promises will be kept and it’s worth extending the patience in the process.

In the journey of life, it’s good to know there is someone that can be trusted who has extended great promises. Promises that can help make the process worthwhile. Promises on the basis of a trustworthy relationship that can help tremendously when there is pressure from the surrounding culture to conform to something completely different.

Others may not understand it and it might cause tension and friction at times with those we love dearly. It is however knowing what has been promised and who has promised that can provide strength and solace at those times where we still need to trust.

It’s probably worth putting your hands in His and follow Him to a place promised for those who put their trust in Him.
