When We Gather … A Few Key Ingredients

There is something about being in their company.

There was food. Decent food too. Drinking. Good drinks too. One person would ask a question and before in no time at all there was a conversational flow. Sometimes autobiographical, sometimes instructional, sometimes humorous, sometimes profound. There was no obligation to speak – it was voluntary. One person would make a point that connected well with what the previous person said. Sometimes it challenged what had been said.

There were natural pauses in the conversation. It was definitely led, but an outsider would have been hard pressed to see which individual was doing the leading. Sometimes it got really personal and it felt as though there was a degree of vulnerability and liberty in expression that cut deep into listeners. At times it would seem as though you shouldn’t be listening to that level of disclosure, but there was something about trust in the setting that made it a comfortable environment.

Insights were shared that bridged the gap between experience and life walking with Christ. Life in the Word unfolded and highlighted bringing greater understanding. Questions asked and moments to consider them and no pressure for comprehensive answers to emerge there and then.

Life issues discussed and help readily offered. Support given to those in need and wholehearted concern expressed without hindrance. Given in spoken word, given in sung word, given in prayer, given in tangible material.

Relationships strengthened for the experience.

There is something about being in their company.
