The Call to Giving As Living

It is one of the smartest things I’ve witnessed.

Often in my life I’m very much aware that it is only me. Nobody else is me and nobody else has lived my life and is living my life.

Following that route, it’s also a reality that there are things that concern me that I feel the need to pursue to give me what I believe I need.

Understandably, then, it is easy for life to be very self-centred.

Here’s the beautiful thing that happens to turn it upside down. Someone revealed that the best way to navigate life is to be anti-self-centred.

True story.

Indeed that someone revealed that to really live is to die to self. And in that death to self there is a life in something far greater that inclines towards the other. That inclination is from the source of life who models giving as the way of living. Giving time, giving attention, giving room for others to express, giving to the need that is seen, giving to the need that is unseen, giving for the benefit of one and giving to the support of many.

That mission of giving as living propels me to be more conscious of others and less self-conscious and self-absorbed.

That’s very smart indeed.
