There are times where I forget that it’s not only the Word of God, but it has the Word from God.
What I mean is that when I’m reading about what happens to Adam, Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Gideon, Samuel, David, Elijah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Nehemiah, Jesus, Peter, Paul and John among others, in and among the narrative, wisdom, psalms, gospel accounts, letters and prophecies there is the eternal one of the ages speaking to me.
He speaks. He talks. He converses. He expresses. He conveys. He communicates.
He is doing that to us as a whole and at times, He’s doing that to me. Just like my Dad or Mum would talk to me and let me know things about who I am as well as about who they are. Just like that and yet on a far grander scale. The heavenly Father has some things to share with me.
This song reminds me of that truth. Keith and Melody Green wrote and produced this song in a style that had God talking to us. Talking to us about what He is like and what He has done, is doing and will do. For all that, it still moves Him when He sees His loved child praising Him.
I mean think about that for a minute.
You have nothing and are nothing without the creator of the universe. There is nothing you can begin to do to match who He is. Yet our acknowledgement of that from the heart does something. Our voluntary returning to Him with thanksgiving and praise is not something He ignores. He doesn’t dismiss it as something trifling by His minions and paupers. None of that at all.
This high and holy God delights to respond to the praise with further proof of His presence with us. And love for us. And generosity in blessing us now. And promise that one day all heaven and earth will be expressions of what He has always desired. And in that promise all who praise Him now will spend eternity enjoying and loving Him.
He will be our God. We will be His people.
That’s what He says. That’s amazing.
That’s a good reason to start the praises.
